Just ignore the nay-sayers Ed....They are my homies....but they are List Dream Killers.
When they can't grenade an engine, kill a cat or consume all the beer and pop tarts they will remind you why Larry needs those 2 Pantera's sitting in his garage that aren't running that someday will be worth millions of dollars because they are so low mileage. ;-]>

Yea, its not a Chevy tank ED but unless it rusted out it should outlast the next owner and you or if you live in California the next roadside vehicle inspection.

I have to tackle this job this year. I have found the renew prices to be in line with has been mentioned as compared to a replacement tank at 1,000 +. My dilema is while not wanting to spend 1,000 for a new tank I am a bit concerned about the longevity of renewing the tank because 1.) it is a thin wall tank to start with and has been made even thinnner by the rust and 2.) the work required to pull the tank (pulling the engine). I would hate to have to pull the engine twice in a few years.
Will a renewed tank really give a resonable service life both from a rust standpoint and the durabiity of the coating matererial?

Most good radiator shops all over do a good job of also cleaning out and resealing/coating the fuel tank. And once they re-coat it it should not ever have a rust problem again. Prices I have seen are anywhere from $195 up to 325 depending on tank and actual work done. This is common practice with cars we do that do not have fuel tanks easily found to replace an old one. Tom,
If you don't know what you are doing find someone who does and will 'certify' the work. While you certainly don't need the mods we made to my Pantera when Mike Trusty built my IR-EFI system he suggested that we reverse the fuel pickup to the bottom of the tank which included adding AN fittings and both a HV and LV pumps. The shop that did mine does allot of race work and did all the work.

I'm sure my tank has never been drained so this also brings up the question
about corrosion? I've seen there are coatings to put on the inside of the tank
to reseal the surface, which I assume means you have to do an acid wash to
remove the corrosion already there before you seal it or it will just come back.
Any suggestions on what product to use from those that have done it already?
My engine is out, so it would be stupid not to do it now.
Best regards,
Tom Borcich
