[DeTomaso] half shafts and u joints

When I said the two halves should be at 90 degrees to each other, I meant 
the crosses should be parallel. If you assemble the halfshafts and set them 
on the ground, the crosses should be flat to each other- one should NOT be 
cocked at all. This is much harder to explain than to do!

Some halfshafts are indeed balanced with welded washers. But in fact, the 
halfshafts are small in diameter so the amount of imbalance is not very much 
and all the parts are quite close to the center of rotation. You have 3 
choices: assemble and drive: if you feel any excessive vibration at high speeds, 
you'll have to do something. If not, you lucked out. Or you can try 
interchanging the pieces until the vibration goes away. Third choice is to take the 
halfshafts to a driveline specialist shop and they will re-balance the 
parts. Once you have them so there's no vibration, metal-stamp the pieces so 
this doesn't happen again. Good luck- J Deryke
