[DeTomaso] Anybody know just about how many

The Pantera vendors (Hall Pantera in particular) maintain customer lists,
and the total number of customers would indicate that the number of cars is
very high.

As I understand, Hall and other vendor lists do not comprise by VIN and have
no way of tracking cars as they pass from owner to newer owner. More
customers than cars.

Sciroccos are getting very thin on the ground I'm afraid, and almost
impossible to find in junkyards anymore. It's making parts scarce.
(I'm annoyed because today I learned the bodyshop *destroyed* my slightly
dented/rusted fender when they were replacing it with a new one I'd plucked
from a junkyard...they assumed the bad one was scrap and took no pains to
preserve it when they removed it, even though it could have easily been
fixed....)
With respect to the number of Panteras running around, I'd say that as a
percentage, it is probably slightly lower than same-year Ferraris, and
higher
than same-year Porsches, and MUCH higher than same-year Corvettes.
I would say that we are grossly underestimating the number of Panteras
still around, however. There are a LOT of cars owned by people who are
'off
the radar', i.e. not members of any clubs, not on the internet etc. The
Pantera vendors (Hall Pantera in particular) maintain customer lists, and
the
total number of customers would indicate that the number of cars is very
high
indeed, relative to the overall production number.
Panteras are still turning up every day, popping out of barns and garages
where they've been hiding and forgotten for years.
