Thats good to hear, there is a sponsor!
But that said, you think the Sponsor would want the car to run GREAT, after all his name will be on the side of the car!
Hell, I'm glad the Pantera is fixed and running well! Lets hope he make a great showing at the event! It will be a plus for all us Pantera Owners!
Good Luck

If you read the post more closely you would have seen he has a "sponsor" some one else ( I don't know who but undoubtedly some commercial enterprise who is sponsoring his car for the international exposure) Just like Viagra sponsors Nascar cars, of US Fidelis ( the extended warranty company sponsors Rusty Wallace and his son. The examples are to numerous to list. This event is going to be covered by media all over the planet as well as the cars being seen by hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of people along the route. It is great advertising and cheap by media standards. It may also have been a case where the sponsor might have backed out if he realized the car he was backing wasn't running well. When you sponsor a car you want it to have good odds of finishing. I'm sure Robert didn't want his sponsor to get wind of the fact  that his car was not running a few days before he had to leave.

P.S. It is not a race. It is a rally . In fact they say anyone  (a prticipant) that is encourages making it a "speed contest " will be ejected with no refund of the entry fee. The object is to finish and to make it through specific check points. They stop everynight along the way and have all sorts of media events , parties, concerts etc. The participants get hotel rooms and food all iving expenses covered as part of the entrance fee.

Please NO one take offense...
BUT If you have $44K to run this race? You think you could have taken the car some place to get it fixed and not just throw new parts at it?
Good Luck in the Race
OK...Flame suit on

Robert levitt1946 at aol.com)The guy that was having all the trouble with
getting his motor running and went through all the suggestions of possible
fixes (timing, sheared distributor pin, timing chain jumped time etc. After
replacing his distributor cap , plugs, wires, re timing, re jetting his
holley 750, rebuilding the floats , replacing the choke and everything you
could do short of replacing the carb, he finally did replace the 750 with a
Holley 650 which I recommended as a suggestion stating that the 750 was
to big for his motor ( not taking any credit I learned it here) Anyway his
car is purring like a kitten ( or maybe more like a pissed of Jungle cat)
and he is running in the 2009 Gumball Rally. For any of you who are
unfamiliar with this even ( I had never heard of it) It is a week long even
that starts in LA and ends in Florida . 3000 miles. It has 120 cars of all
sorts from Exotics , to classics to muscle cars to a 1960 VW camper with a
Porsche engine. There is even a Bugatti and a Rolls Royce. Most of the
entrants are celebrities of sorts. David hassel Hoff will be driving the
original "Kit " from night rider. There will be a Saudi prince , a
guy who
won Lemans, some playboy chicks, At a $44K entrance fee it keeps out the
riff raff or guarantees to well to do riff raff. Anyway here is the web
sight. And I would like to suggest we support our newest member and his
Pantera to represent the Marque as he drives in the midst's of some of the
worlds most exotic and expensive cars in existence. It will be broadcast in
part on MTV ( who else?) Here is the web link.
