Sounds like you've managed to accumulate enough condensation inside the
gauge to maybe cause meter-movement stickiness,or the needle is somehow bent
out of plane. If all the wires on the gauge are clean 'n tight, the chrome
bezel can be pried off, the works removed, cleaned and a tiny bit of instrument
oil added. Basically, it involves patient work with a small straight-blade
screwdriver to lift the backside crimp a bit at a time until about 2/3 of
the periphery is lifted up. The case and bezel will then separate. More
careful work will push the lifted-up crimp back down. But this can only be done
once or if you're lucky- twice before the sheet-brass bezel will crack where
its bent. Then you get to send the assembly into a shop for repair since
bezels alone are not readily available (that I ever found) for do-it-yerselfers.
So if you ever considered white-face gauges, now might be the time to get
them.... Good luck, Clay- J Deryke
