The position is adjustable, with difficulty. But lube-leakage or lack of same 
comes from an internal o-ring, not the tightness of the assembly to the ZF 
cases. If you try adjusting the assembly, please do NOT try to remove the 
assembly from the transaxle. Be aware that the actual drive for the speedo 
right-angle assembly is a loose 4" long shaft inside the cases. It is retained by the 
10mm bolt under the assembly which also holds the right-angle assembly into the 
case. Removing the bolt frees the right angle drive AND the internal shaft, 
which falls into the internals of the transmission. Driving the car with a 
loose shaft inside will assuredly destroy the whole transmission, and removing a 
dropped shaft requires almost complete disassembly of the transaxle to get it 
back. 
Ring gear safety wire is insurance. Some cars were never stressed enough to 
loosen the OEM ring gear nolts, but most were; cracked cases are the result. 
Did you drill the OEM bolts or use pre-drilled bolts from a U.S vendor? OEM 
bolts are over-hardened and brittle, with locking serrations under the head that 
do not bite into the hardened surface of the ring gear, as they should to work 
as designed. U.S-made replacements are not serrated, and predrilled & tough 
rather than hard. Good luck- J Deryke
