I've never heard of that before.   My VIN stamping is very light, and when 
the car was painted and painted again, it was almost totally obscured.   Are you 
*sure* there is no VIN stamped on the body itself in the proper location???   
Try using paint stripper to remove any paint to see what's underneath?
