NOt trying to pour salt on a wound, but that tire speed rating is a rather
well known requirement. I think it was the Dawg himself who explained why -
a few years ago someone in a Testa Rossa ran with tires suitable for his
Speed class, but below the capability of the car. He went out and exceded
his tech speed for an extended period and his tires gave out. They exploded,
he drove into the side of a mountain and killed his co-driver/wife, if I
remember correctly. 

 

Basically, they want  you protected. If you car can do 160, then your tires
need to be able to do 160 even if you SAY you won't drive that fast.
