Most were retrofitted with the Dash-2 as part of a TSB campaign, but not all.
There was never a good reason to replace the perfectly good Dash-1 with a
Dash-2; that was all a big goof on Ford's part. Some early cars had
misadjusted clutches which caused premature synchro wear. Ford panicked and issued a
notice to the dealers saying that if they encountered a car with that problem,
that an updated transaxle could be had under warranty.

Soon every dealer was installed one in every Pantera that came in for
service, because they got paid big bucks by Ford to handle the warrenty claim! But
in most cases there was nothing wrong, and the perfectly good, low-mileage
Dash-1 gearbox was scrapped, as it wasn't felt that there was any value in
'repairing' them. :<(
