That looks like a slightly repackaged 91ish and up Mark VII/T-Bird (probably others) factory type starter.....for a 5.0L car.   

Probably only difference is the diameter of the flange area that fits into the bellhousing tin plate/guard/shield.

Need to watch nose depth too..... as late model nose design is the same for auto and manual trans now.

In days of Pantera, there was a difference between manual and auto in terms of how far the Bendix was allowed to travel into the bellhousing. One way will work, one way will not....

Also, you could possibly have a bad spot on your ring gear.... Those are easy enuf to replace if you can get a new one, or simply take yours off and turn it over 180 degrees!  (Heat at 350 for 10 minutes or so...will slip right on...)
