Presumably, you have filled and bled the looped lines many times since the early 90s. Has it been a problem?

If it ain't broke ...

Subject: [DeTomaso] Looped brake lines question

Hi guys,

Since I started horsing around with my brake lines this past weekend, I
discovered that one of the brass fittings had failed, causing a slight leak. So I
tore it out and replace it, and now I need to re-fill and re-bleed the
system.

Doing this work brought to my attention a strange fact. The guy that did
all the restoration work on my car in the early 90s replumbed the brakes and
clutch, and he did a curious thing. He put a big loop in each of the longer
lines. Here, take a look:

http://panteraclubnorcal.com/images/misc/loopedlines.jpg

The clutch line loop is at the right of the photo; the right front brake loop
towards the left, and the final loop is in the fire suppression system
plumbing.

My general recollection is that when a hard line is used over a great, great
distance, sometimes they will put a horizontal loop in it to allow for
movement, i.e. stretching and shrinking. There's no need for such a thing on such a
short line as that in a car, however.

These vertical loops just look like air pockets waiting to happen. Do you
think I should go through the trouble of ripping these lines out and
fabricating new ones without any loops, or should I just fill and bleed the system and
hope for the best?

Mike
