It's a stock replacement trunnion from Wilkinson. Yes, it's about $78.
Yes, I lubricated it thoroughly using Lubriplate white Lithium grease.
The rubber on both sides helps keep it inside. I cleaned the shifter
shaft until it was smooth and shiny, then put it all back together.
I was going to opt for Quella's replacement, but didn't want to send in
my shift rod in order to have it done. He turns down the stock rod in
order to fit the heim setup. I wasn't really -there- yet so I just
purchased a stock replacement from Wilkinson. I'm not sure how the
entire assembly is made, but the outer sides are rubber, and encase the
whole innards. The hole for the shaft is small enough in the rubber to
keep a good seal around the shaft. The bearing material on the inside
appears to be bronze possibly, I can't be sure. Once I put some white
grease inside and slid the shaft through, it appears to be keeping the
grease on the inside.
Although I thought the price was a bit steep (yes, I know, it's a stock
part and I should expect that), I am very pleased with it, and it should
last a good long time.
:)
