I hope you lubricated it thoroughly?

Many of the vendors use a bling-bling billet aluminum job with a teflon 
insert; I don't believe this is a good solution, because as the shaft moves 
forwards and backwards, it also pivots slightly around the centerline of the trunnion 
bearing.   Unless the new trunnion was set up in a fashion that allowed it to 
rotate slightly, it would cause binding.

Dennis Quella pioneered the use of a simple rod end (heim joint) to replace 
the stock trunnion (actually this is very standard race car practice, but not 
common in road cars because it requires periodic maintenance).   That's what I 
have in my car, and it's as smooth as glass.
