Yup. Sometimes you can't get all the info off the Web. There's a nice article 
in the current Hot Rod magazine on Mickey Thompson's life. In it, they 
mentioned that Ford referred to the engine as a 'NASCAR 429' before they coined the 
word "Boss". This, and the need to satisfy NASCAR rules for homologation of 
the engine in the Mustang, probably led to those little brass plates. Again, 
many likely don't know that NASCAR ran a short-lived division for Pony-car racing
