Certainly a unique interpretation of the definition. Flawed but interesting as I think the remaining examples left to be considered front engine would be few given the strict usual guideline of driver placement and axle center line. I can't think of any front engine cars where the entire engine is fore of the front axle which support your concept. Open to learn. Michael in savannah

The C6 is a mid engine car. The difference is that it is a front mid-engine rather than a rear mid-engine.

There may be other advantages in having the engine nearer the center, maybe some gyroscopic effects of the rotating crank, flywheel, etc., or even the effects on oiling etc. that are minimized when the motor is in the center (just guessing here). Also, putting the transmission in the back to somewhat balance the front engine increases the moment of inertia. I suspect you want as much of the mass near the center as possible to optimize handling.

Goran,
Since the mid-engine layout has for years been seen as the most ideal
architecture, the C-6 overturns that argument with a 51 / 49% weight bias, a
neutral
weight base to build high performance handling on. That is what years ago was
seen as not achievable in a car with a powerful engine.

The Corvette now shows that with available modern electronic technologies
front engine rear drive is
every bit as good, maybe better, than a mid-engine layout. All of those cars
by the way are far more expensive than the Corvette.

All the best,
