We found the same thing but on a suggestion from So-Cal member Ike Burr aboit 
12 years ago, I took the stock seats from our '72-1/2 and sent them to Mike 
Cook for reupholstery. Mike stripped the frames, bent the rear crossmember in a 
shallow 'U' so your tailbone is away from the steel, re-padded them with 
fresh foam, then covered with real leather all for $300 per seat. In addition, I 
slotted the rear hold-down straps (these seats have the removable backs) so I 
could change the slant of the backs by slacking off the bolts- Judy being 
shorter likes the seatback more vertical.   Results: a pair of seats that fit both 
of us and the car with no drilling or welding, are comfortable for either of 
us on 8-hr drives, and look stock. As a bonus I gained an inch of headroom: 
helmet clears OK. FWIW, I'm 6'2". Cheers- J Deryke
