Bill Mitchell supported the Engineering Staff effort and I think that all the 
cars were designed by Larry Shinoda in the little Studio X at Design Staff or 
across the street in our warehouse. Larry started to design wheels for the 
first car and Bill told him to make it look like a "wire wheel".

The cross-laced cast wheel came out of that effort and resulted in a very 
strong and light wheel.
