this was around '99 or '00....we went to Fluidyne (bread box) heat exchangers.

  My dear friend Goran,

These fan equiped air to oil coolers just do not get the job done at high RPMS at WOT....
Both Greg Sullivan and Mike Anderson tried dedicated fans and ducted air at open road races and they did NOT made 5 degrees of difference.

The problem is finding a good air stream for the cooler other than
very long hoses to the front of the car. But I like the fan equipped
Setrab coolers. In such application it is quite suitable to not have
it in any air stream, then it will not cool the oil while the fan is not
on.This means faster warmups.
If we use a water to oil cooler will load the water cooler, but
in any case will the total amount of heat to get rid of need a
certain radiator cooling area. Which could be a bigger
water radiator or a smaller one together with an oil cooler.

If there is an oilcooler in front of the water radiator, this will also load
the water radiator by blocking air flow and feeding it by hotter air.

I recomend a horizontally mounted Setrab thermostat fan oil cooler
mounted horizontally on the right side aft of the fire wall at the side
of the inner rocker panel. then you dont need an leaky oil thermostat.
