Indeed, the looks would be similar, but the 180 config, whether accomplished by the crank or the exhaust creates a unique sound.
 
The open headers you describe on the McLaren Can Am cars and Lola T70s don't quite have the same note.
 
Yes, the GM LS V8 is nutty...quite a powerplant.

That's just it.  The looks would be virtually the same.  The sound has alot to do with where the exhaust exits...in this case
they would be right next to each other which would definitely change the normal sound...plus the other advantages.
