[DeTomaso] Oil pan gasket recommendation?

Another datapoint: I've run a std PCV in the right valve cover for years.
Been fine at the track for years. One year, when I developed a problem in a
cylinder, there was excess blow-by. I then began to suffer the following
phenomenon: after a few laps, there would be an oil volcano at the PCV
valve. I mean a real volcano. It would catch my eye in the rear view
mirror. Presumably, the higher blow-by flow rate would prevent oil drain
back from the right valve cover until it completely filled, then the
crankcase pressure would blow the PCV valve out of the valve cover and blow
the oil out the hole and all over the back of the car. I mean dripping. I
have photos. I probably avoided a fire due to jethot coated headers.

The point is that it doesn't seem to take much gas flow up the drain holes
of the head to slow/stop oil draining back.

This also lead to enormous front main seal leaks.

Also, the next engine will have a crankcase vent in the lifter galley. No
need to draw up to the valve covers and risk that mess again.

Mike
I think Larry may be right on with his suggestion. If there is no leak
except at high RPM, that's a very strong indication that no matter where the
leak is, excess crankcase pressure is likely causing it. I suspect the
factory PCV system is totally inadequate for sutained very high revs. You
might try the same run with extra NASCAR or circle track type breathers to
see if the problem is solved. The other issue is making sure that the
crankcase can breathe to the valve covers (if that's where the extra
breathers are). If the heads and drainbacks are all flooded with oil so that
can't take place, you will have to remedy it first - or put a breather
directly to the crankcase by some other route to stop the leak. MD must have
dealt with this issue a long time ago.

Dawg? What say you?

Hi Mike,

You may want to check you venting / PCV system. At high RPM the blow-by is
at its highest. I have seen crank cases pressurized and blow oil out a
normally good seal. If your heads are full of oil the venting system may not
be working to well.
