Barry,

I think most Pantera owners love the original look of the cars, and try to avoid anything changing the look.  But they also value performance over mechanical originality, so if you can make the care more reliable or faster, without changing the look, it's a non issue.  I'm not sure which you refer to by "customized".

One reason I bought my current Pantera was because they do not have inflated "collector's value" so you are paying for hardware, not exclusivity.  If the collector's value grows, it will be the end of the little guy building his dream car in his garage.

Hear Hear!

Until there is a lot more respect for original Panteras among owners
themselves, the customized ones are going to be regarded as defective toys
for kids to play with (kit cars) by the masses at large.

Bear in mind also, that "collectors" are despised by a large
proportion of
current Pantera owners for the very reason that they are concerned with
investment value, originality, etc.

After more than five years as a Pantera owner, I've come to understand that
originality is valued right up there with leprosy in most Pantera circles. A
lot of what is sometimes called "original" isn't even original.

I love the Ford program cars the way they looked when they were made, but
ike most, I can't resist electrical/mechanical improvements. I'm doing
my
best to keep all the appearances "original" though, because I like it
that
way.

Each to his own, but no harm in some respect for the cars the way they
started out.

Granted it would need work to be a "driver", still cheaper than total
restoration of a driven and neglected car though.
But why would you even consider purchasing this car as a "driver"?
There are a ton of "driver" Panteras out there.
This car is now a piece of history and should be preserved as is.
I think it's great that everyone loves to customize their cars but if there
was more respect for these original survivors such as judged preservation
classes for POCA sanctioned shows I think we would see an increase in car
values. These higher Pantera values we all want to see can only happen when
there is more demand than supply. IMHO getting more preservation collectors
into our fold would help with increased demand and values.
