[DeTomaso] clutch???

The Pantera had an 11" Ford Long-style 3-finger clutch as-stock. The assembly
was derived from a stock Ford unit but substantially modified to fit the
Pantera. First, the centrifugal bob-weights on the 3 levers were cut off to allow
the clutch to physically miss the stiffening ribs inside the bellhousing.
Second, the disc was thinned to reduce the assembly thickness. To avoid damage and
lots of work, simply call your favorite Pantera parts vendor for an assembly
that will bolt in. For one that uses less leg force for the same holding
power, Centerforce sells a diaphragm assembly, but its expensive because this one
is derived from an aftermarket 10-1/2" Mustang clutch and Centerforce requires
their own flywheel to go with their clutch and disc. Finally, expect ANY
clutch you add to require adjustment of the splined slave cylinder bellcrank lever
on the cross-shaft, the length of the slave cylinder actuating rod and
possibly the clutch pedal height. Errors in changing a clutch can cause clutch drag
and lots of wear on your ZF synchronizers which will cost far more than a
clutch. This is NOT a trivial parts replacement! Good luck- J Deryke
