 Because I had switched to using it from other types (the bottles back then didn't say anything about not using it if you had been using something else-- it just said "long life," and I figured that was a good thing,) all my cars had some of the old stuff in there. This would be consistent with the gel stuff forming when you mix types


Since you have presumably always used DexCool in your van, that cause should not apply to you.
I had read that DexCool tends to form that gel wherever it is exposed to air-- like in the overflow bottle.

Is it an issue with older engines?  I've used it in the all aluminun LS engined 
Vettes all along and I've never even heard an issue 
mentioned.  What black stuff are you talking about?  Maybe it works differently 
in iron blocks ad heads or a mix of metals.  Just curious.
