[DeTomaso] heating up

1) When your car overheated, was it accompanied by gurgling, burping,
boiling, and possibly displays of steam? If not, then perhaps your car isn't
overheating at all and you have an electrical problem with your gauge. The
gauge can lie, but the laws of physics can't... If you don't have boiling,
then your car isn't overheating.

2) Assuming that your car is in fact overheating, then another possibility
as to what could cause sporatic overheating could be a partially sheared
distributor pin? Does the car feel down and power and run ok except for the
temp? Or does it feel sluggish?

Asunto: [DeTomaso] heating up

i have a heating problem i cant figure out. last week i drove my pantera out
for a days ride only to have the guage work its way to the extreme right in
a short about of time, about 3mile after the warm up. i firured the
thermostat was stuck so i got a 160 from bob at pantera performance and
changed it and tested the guage for grounding and changed the sending unit.
took it out and it stayed in the 180 to 200 range and hopped on ti a number
of times and everything seemed done. i reassembled everything and considered
finished. saturday i took it out for a morning run and everything was great.
yesterday i went down the road about 4 miles and there goes the guage again
pegging to the red. i went stright home and went in my mustang. when i
returned i checked the water level and it was full. i checked the overflow
tank ,it was almost dry.iam stumped on the heat problem and need help? i
need some suggestions on what to do or try next. it is a bad feeling to want
to drive it around and have to feel uncomfortable on how far i can go.
thanks sonny 4233
