[DeTomaso] Shocks

Next to pulling & rebuilding an engine, this is probably the most
labor-intensive upgrade you can perform on a Pantera. Once you've done it, figure on a
full Saturday's work to do it again. The rubber bushings press out when one
washer is snapped off. Then depending on whether you chose to buy new rubber
bushings or poly bushings that are full-sized, you must also remove the steel
sleeve- 16 times- and thats really a chore since the sleeves are almost exactly the
same diameter as the a-arm recepacle so pressing is difficult. Cutting the
bushing is perilous since its really easy to also cut the a-arm socket,
seriously weakening it. I use poly bushings that fit inside the stock steel sleeves,
so if you had those replacements, you'd be done now..... Finally, if you
haven't yet bought the replacements, consider purchasing offset bushings for adding
caster to the front end cheaply. Fred Terry wrote an article called 'Bushing
Pushing' a few years ago in the POCA News that went thru all the scenarios.
Or, some vendors sell a-arms that have the things removed on an exchange basis.
Good luck- J Deryke
