[DeTomaso] What is your favorite Fun Rally event?

It's about the journey. I have driven to Las Vegas via Yosemite, Kings
Canyon, Sequoia, and Lake Havasu. It was a blast. There is nothing
like carving corners at 10,000 feet, blasting down desert roads,
cruising through meadows.
What you need to do is head south from Minden down 395 past Mono Lake
and Mammoth Lakes. Head east on 6 with a little side trip to Tonopah
Junction along 360-95. Head up 376 to Darroughs Springs then blow out
some carbon on that triple-digit straightaway. Take 50 through the
twisties to Six Mile Canyon Road ending at Virginia City. Head up
through more twisties on Gieger Grade Road which drops you into right
onto Virginia St in Reno. It will be a tank of gas and be a good day
spent at speed with stops at beautiful lakes and hot springs. We should
all be so lucky.

Unfortunately, my first choice wasn't listed- the drive to and from the
Las
Vegas area. This roughly 450 mile one-way trip is my once-a-year test
drive
where any mods I've done to Judy's long-suffering Pantera get
acid-tested in
real-world use. We both have favorite sections of the drive where we can
safely
stretch the Pantera's legs, check cooling ranges of both oil and water,
and
simply look at the desert scenery. FWIW- J DeRyke
