[DeTomaso] rear brake

If you're speaking of the rear caliper found on pre-1980 Panteras, the
threads on the inside stalk of the rear caliper are for the self-adjuster, which
being square, releases when the piston is rotated a little. If your rear caliper
doesn't work as a brake, the threads have nothing to do with it. If it doesn't
self-adjust, be sure its the caliper causing the trouble. Sometimes the heavy
cable is rusted to the jacket on one side, preventing the hand brake from
working. If its actually the caliper, I suggest replacing it with no further
diassembly, as no repair parts exist- at least in the U.S. This little toy caliper
is also found on certain Peugeots. All one can do is replace the rubber seal
in the bore and clean the piston & bore with scotch-brite pads. I've also
found bleeder screws sealed shut with hard varnish from ancient brake fluid, that
had to be drilled out so air could be bled. The pliers-type rear e-brake found
on post-1980 Panteras is very different. Good luck- J Deryke
