[DeTomaso] Other Aero Issues

All the ultra smooth paint finishes are also contributing to aero drag on cars run at high speeds. A dimpled finish surface and positively effects boundary layer performance, especially at the leading edges. The matte finish I applied to my Pantera this year was done just for that reason.
While it may appear to be just black primer, it was in fact a special mix prepared to achieve a specific surface texture. It was obviously
successful as I was able to maintain a 120mph average with top speeds reached around 150mph...all from a 150hp engine. Interior wind noise was greatly reduced. Will Kooiman was impressed with these results and has indicated he may pursue a similar path at the 2009 BBORR.
A heavier textured coating applied with a roller seems likely. My car is black so his will be white with gold glitter much like the old acoustic
ceilings of the 60's. That should get even more attention than the matte black car. I can wait to see how it works at speed.
