Bob,

Why don't you just mount the damn oil cooler to the top of the deck lid
at the hinge.  If it works, this will tell you what you need to know
about the effectiveness of the rest of your system.

Yea this should be just a temp (pun - temporary) test, but...
Add some polished stainless or chrome, then all is well.

Ken,
When you hook your cooler to your
water pump you are picking up the water
coming from the radiatior... then you return
it back to the radiator in the return line.
 
I screwed this up last year by putting both
lines to the water pump and think I created
a steam pocket on the front of the engine
which sheared the fan impellor at the point
where they bent it 
 
I can tell you I have had better results with the
air to water as that would stay at 280 longer
than the water to oil which seems to peg at 300
right away once the car is pushed
 
Going back to the air to oil and going up front
where we can get some air
