[DeTomaso] European GTS model

You guys might have finally given me the answer I've been looking for since
1987. I bought a '73 Pantera (5186) from someone that brought it over from
Germany. The German registration said it was a GTS, which is what it was
represented to me by the owner. My research at the time said that a GTS had
a momo steering wheel, vented rotors, fiberglass fender flares, 8" rims in
front and 10" rims in back, front air dam, large diameter headers and Ansa
exhaust, GTS badges on wheels and shifter and on taillight panel; all of which my
car had.

My car has a fiberglass dash with the metal faceplate; both of which had
been recovered when I bought it. I since recovered it early in my ownership and
thought the dash looked very crude, making me think it was an early
production model (prototype) before they started molding them like the ones on the US
models. I also have the detomaso script on the dash. One of the reasons
I thought the dash was pre-production is because my hazard switch is outboard
of the wiper/washer switches, which is backward from every car I seen.
Even though I had this series 3 dash, I had the two piece series 1 console with
the raised shifter cover.

I wrote the factory in 2000 to see if they could confirm my car was a GTS
but Claudia wrote back and said my car was build and sold by Vignale and she
didn't have the records. Not real sure what that means but the Detomaso
envelope and stationary was pretty cool.

>From what I heard from the list, I think I can final say with confidence I
have an Euro GTS.

Thanks,

Tom

I've been asked to help identify (what makes) a European GTS Pantera.

If you have one of these cars, please contact me. I am making a list
of the various features and options that would help clarify this issue.

You can then review my draft list and add your knowledge.
I'm building a page for the topic now.
