First, the temps you saw are close to ideal, ASSUMING the temp sender is no
longer in the coolant surge tank (as stock) but is in the block under the
thermostat, and that the gauge was calibrated- of which most were not. So as for
temp, you have two things to check.
Rpms in 5th will depend on tire diameter assuming that the ring & pinion
ratio remains as-stock. 335-35 x ? tires of most brands usually are much smaller
in diameter than the stock 26-1/2", which will increase the rpms you'll see
on the usually-accurate tach. Measure the dia of one tire with a tape measure
and do a math proportioning to figure out what ratio this car actually has
relative to 26-1/2" diameter. This also holds for the speedo which is usually
quite well matched to the tach- for stock dia. tires.
