I spoke to the K&N rep at the SEMA show about this specific problem.

They told me that the long pole in the tent is the filter shape.   The height 
is infinitely variable.

He said that if you wanted a filter in an existing shape, but a different 
height, all you have to do is call their customer service and order it.   He said 
the cost would be basically the same as the other filters in the line, too.
