No wonder I hated chemistry.
Well then, let's just get rid of all that nasty oxygen in the air.  It seems
to be causing 2/3 of the problem.

The carbon in the fuel combines with oxygen from the air.  Hence a gallon of
gasoline burns to make about  20 # of CO2.   see
