[DeTomaso] cruise control bizzaro world

I got into the cruise control this evening to figure out why it stopped working right after I put in the new oil pressure gauge.
I used some of those stupid scotch locks on some of the wires in an attempt to hook up the gauge's light and I thought perhaps I cut one accidentally.
It turned out for some reason, the 12v ignition wire had no power, so I searched for another switched wire in the
engine bay. I found one on an unused wire harness plug (it used to be for the ignition components before I went to
the ready-to-run electronic ignition).
The wire was blue, and was on with the ignition, so I used that. I tried the cruise control and presto, it worked.
I noticed, however, that the previously unused "gen" light on the dash was now illuminated! Wen I turned the cruise control
off by touching the brake, the gen light went out. I think the blue wire must run through the gen light, and had something to do
with the old alternator circuit.
Here's the bizzaro part--now, when I turn off the cruise control with the dashboard control unit, it doesn't turn off! It keeps
cruising as if I hadn't done anything. Yet, when I touch the brake or take the car out of gear, the cruise control turns off normally.
As long as it works and there's no danger of anything spontaneously combusting , I kinda like it, since I now have a dash light
indicating I'm using the cruise control!
Anyone know any reason I shouldn't keep it the way it is?
Thanks,
Chris
