You could have...but that is what everyone will say when they don't know
what happened.
I blame this kind of stuff on the old ground hog that lives out back. He
does all kinds of stuff like this to me.
Go for a ride but don't hit a ground hog...it's bad luck for me.

Larry, I did the disconnect the battery thing for an hour or two and
no change. So I said screw it and I physically advanced the timing by
turning the distributor clockwise and sure enough the car ran better and
showed normal numbers on the balancer. Thing is, the cap is obviously not
in its original position, so WTF? Unless maybe I jumped a tooth on one of
my timing gears?
