Depends upon your particular engine combination. I tried none, 1/2", 1" and
2" straight 4-hole spacers during an engine dyno test and to everyone's
surprise the highest average HP was achieved with the 1/2" phenolic spacer.
It's best to test your changes for an improvement rather than take a
manufacturer's or magazine article's word for an expected improvement. That
said, I'd like to try the sculpted type of spacer shown in your picture
link.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Carb Spacer
Hi all,
I've read a few places that that a 2" high intake carb spacer can increase
plenum volume. "A spacer increases the carb-to-plenum floor distance which
atomizes the fuel better and also enhances low-rpm torque and throttle
response".
an example of one for sale on PI:

Anyone have an opinion or experience? Are these worth the pain of
re-adjusting linkage and all, or just an excuse to sell an expensive piece
of plastic to the unwashed looking for bolt on HP?
thanks,
brent
