[DeTomaso] Carb Spacer

Hi all,
I've read a few places that that a 2" high intake carb spacer can increase plenum volume. "A spacer increases the carb-to-plenum floor distance which atomizes the fuel better and also enhances low-rpm torque and throttle response".

Anyone have an opinion or experience?  Are these worth the pain of re-adjusting linkage and all, or just an excuse to sell an expensive piece of plastic to the unwashed looking for bolt on HP?
