In some of the aftermarket catalogs, maybe Speedway, I have seen   a 
thermostat goosneck that had a vertical tube and radiator fill and cap on top of it. 
It also had a sight glass.
 to monitor the coolant/air content.

That would allow the catch can to be located in a more flexible way also.

Has anyone addressed pressure?

I have switched from a 16 pound cap to a 7 pounder recently and now do not 
get the temperature swings that I used to get.
