No; VERY long story, reprinted in the July POCA News. The gist is, the
Mangusta rides so low to the ground that the car acts like a vacuum cleaner and
filth is sucked up right about where the carb is. He was getting around 3000 road
miles from an open element air cleaner before it plugged solid. This was the
source of his problem coming back from 'Vegas- a year old element was so
plugged, the engine wouldn't run above 3000 rpms. The stock Mangusta closed element
air cleaner sucks from 2 feet behind the engine and we suspect the reason is,
DeTomaso knew about this vacuum-cleaner effect. I also suspect the same sort
of thing with '71-'72 Panteras, which had a closed element air cleaner that
sucked from back around #8 cylinder-well out of the normal air flow. Sometimes,
a hot-rod air cleaner buys you nothing but trouble down the road. FWIW- J
