Ford made a running change to the late '72- early '73s and up. The front
grille is removeable via viisible screws on these cars. Then a skilled,
double-jointed mechanic reaches up and unbolts the hood hinges. On earlier cars, the
grilles were held in with studs brazed to the inner side; if such a car's hood
cable breaks, its time for an air chisel! Typically thru the trunk floor to
reach the latch with a rod or long screwdriver, as sometimes happened with early
'60s Ford passenger cars that had front-hinged hoods. The emergency cable is a
much simpler option for all IMHO- and if routed through a 2" hole instead of a
1/4" hole, you also have clutch master pivot-pin access. Cheers- J DeRyke
