rampant. As I said before:

>>>Those names are unknown to the Bubba NASCAR set. In Europe, they are all
widely known and respected by anybody with even slight automotive knowledge.
(I freely admit that the Europeans maintain a similar ignorance of American
cars and racing history).

>>>Again, you're looking at the world through the Bubba prism. In fact the
more recent models of these reborn marques are generally less known among the
European cognoscenti than the originals that made the names famous.

>>>Yes, but ask anybody in the USA if they've ever heard of a De Tomaso and
you'll get a blank stare from most people. A few people will twig to the idea
of a Pantera, but the De Tomaso name means almost nothing here in the USA.
The name is much better known, and unfortunately almost universally derided in
Europe. I'm not saying it's right, but that's just the way it is.

>>>One doesn't need to spend millions buying the De Tomaso name to achieve
that. One could conceivably build a new sports car and call it a Pantera, and
gain some sort of positive rub-off from our cars. Most Americans think it's
a Ford Pantera anyway. But the De Tomaso name itself is worthless.
Again, I *wish* all that wasn't true. But I'm realistic about it.
