The concern that the Nitto folks had was that the thin-walled 555r would not handle the heavy side loads in the corners.  Again, I do not know if it is a real problem or not.

Hmm - the site calls the 555r a drag tire and the 555rii  the road race tire?

555) and the NT01 since they come in sizes good for a Pantera with 15"
wheels and are speed rated at Y and Z, respectively.  I contacted the
Nitto tech folks, but they said that those tires should not be used on
the street.  I do not know if street use would be a real problem or
whether it was just said for liability reasons.  I know a lot of Mustang
guys who run those on the street without problem, so I dunno.

I just checked the Nitto web site and saw a reference for the 555r on
the street.  Hmmm...

For those of us with the 15" wheels -- 
The 555r comes in 275/50R15 and 325/50R15.
The NT01 comes in 225/45R15.

That exceeds my pain threshold.  Among the more budget friendly options,
the Vredesteins Sessantas and the Nitto 555's top my list.  The Nittos
are
an option I didn't include in my original post.  They seem to get very
