[DeTomaso] ZF Limits

Some people can break bowling balls.

The Esakoff car has almost enough power (which is WAY toooo effing
much) and probably isn't driven with durability in mind.

Having just bought a couple of tremec boxes, I've thought alot about
this . . .

Gearbox longevity depends upon:

available traction - if you are on the salt, or running dried out 30
year old f60x14 tires . . . drive line pieces will last a little
longer. If you are running 10.5 slicks and routinely carry the front
wheels, I'll bet a gear box won't last quite as long.

driving style: A.J. Foyt/Esakoff/Jr. Wilson style will lead to
failures. If you "really want to finish" a 24 hour road race you may
drive a little differently (not to mention preparation)

available power: if you have a Bryars 514 conversion and do lots of
"donuts" (see driving style, above) and power shift routinely (again
the driving style card) then it is PROVEN that a ZF won't last. IF
you are driving the typical "gurly-man" smogged Pantera and don't want
to buy a new ZF (and drive accordingly) the ZF will last a while.

You pays your $ and takes your choices.
