[DeTomaso] ZF Limits

The difference for the gearbox to handle Hp or Tq is that
what limit Hp is heat, so the gearbox must use an oilcooler
whe the heat limit is reached. This mean that for short
periods of tim the gearbox can handle any Hp that the engine
puts out. The mor Hp the shorter the action time will become.

As for Tq, there is no time limit as there is no time involved in
Tq, it is just plain force. This mean that the gearbox will break
instantly as soon as the loading limit is reached.

So, how much Hp and Tq would it take?
I my own caseI have put out some 650 fp without destruction.
But if one is making a Dr start using sticky slicks, a 400 fp
engine might break the case from rotating inertia, that will raise
the Tq for a sec to 1000 fp.

As for Hp I have own experience from melting a gearbox
with a 500 hp engine at a long distance race at Kemola
in Finland. The next gerabox lived by using a cooler.
But I can safley say that I pass ovr 700 hp throught my
gearbox with the Hemi without problem. But this is just for
a few 100 meters before the next turn. For such short time
1000 hp could be used.

I cant tell the Tq number that the ZF will handle since I have
not seen any broken one from Tq. The Hp failur was obvious
as it showed metal to metal gear contact. In lower gear the
tire brakes loose, so for 1-2and 3 gear I dont think any
Tq will brake the case. But in 5th, the input axle would get
som punishment. As for the final gear and halfchaft the tire
grip will still set the limit.
