Oh yeah, as I have found out (the hard way), the '71 had a better (aluminum) FUEL TANK - one that didn't corrode (and pollute your lines) so easily!!!

available, but the early ones are thin on the ground.

These changes weren't incorporated all at once, but rather gradually over 
time.   I wouldn't NOT buy a '71 if the car was particularly good, but given a 
choice, for peace of mind I'd opt for a later '72 Pre-L.

Which, coincidentally, is what I have. :>)
