Gentlemen:

This bit caught my attention, as I find myself not shifting as  
smoothly as I'd like to despite repeated and concentrated effort to do  
so:

there is a redundant shift detent system built into both the car and  
the transaxel, apparently the designer of the car and the designer of  
the transaxel had a lack of communication. these two systems have a  
tendancy to fight eachother. the fix is to eleminate the car system  
and let the transaxel do its job. to do this you simply unbolt the  
shiftplate from the center consol, take the bolt/plug out of the  
shifter housing directly behind the stick and remove the spring and  
use a magnet tool to take out the check ball--problem solved.
you also have to adjust the trunion bearing on the shifter shaft just  
below the DS engine exhaust manifold to get great shifting.
