[DeTomaso] Pulling the Zf

There's not much to say. You have to jack the back of the engine so that
the transaxle mounts clear the "tangs".

Don't forget to remove the dist cap. If you leave it in place, it'll come
too close to the back glass - possibly breaking the glass. I've never seen
it happen, but it looks possible.

You might need to remove the water pipe (top/front).

You don't need to remove the motor mount bolts all the way. Just remove
them enough so the engine can rock on the mounts.

Make sure you use a piece of wood or something under the oil pan to spread
the load.

The transaxle is heavy. Expect to get dirty as you wrestle it out. If you
have a lift, it's a piece of cake to remove.

Don't forget the 3 little M12 bolts at the bottom of the block plate.

Don't forget to remove the starter. I know - Duh.., but you'd be surprised
how easy it is to forget while you're trying to figure out why the
bellhousing won't separate from the block.

Will (from Houston).

Well, the Zf is coming out. The disk is toast. I've always taken the ZF out
with the motor or my last car had the rear mounts modified so I could slide
it backwards for easy removal.
How do I remove the ZF by itself? I remember reading that I've got to jack
the motor up slightly? Do I need to reove the motor mount bolts? Obviously,
the coolant lines need to be disconnected?
I only have a few days before Niagara Falls so I need to make this happen.
Thanks in advance, Will
