My experience with people if they act out of character is that there is very 
likely something negative that you do not know about that is effecting their 
behavior. No doubt this was the case with this person, who you already had a 
good experience with. He later wrongly assumed the value of your car. If that is 
his normal way of operating then discount the first statement.

I think there are many Pantera owners that have Corvettes. Owners of both 
admire uniqueness, historical significance, driving and the satisfaction of 
making something mechanical better than it was originally. They also appreciate the 
skills and effort required to make a car exactly the way it was originally.

Both are classic American do-it-yourselfers as well as being independent 
thinkers who get great satisfaction from their cars.
