Opinions follow:

There "must be some reason" the shaft is pinned.

Also, if the pin breaks I feel it is for a reason, even if its only a  
valve keeper stuck in the oil pump . . . .bwahahahahahaha.

Do you lock your car to keep someone from stealing a 7 dollar watch?
