[DeTomaso] power failure

Equally likely, maybe even more likely is a failure of the junction block 
where the short wiring harness on the ignition switch joins the car's main wiring 
harness.   That thing is a real piece of junk, and over the years it 
overheats, melts, falls apart etc.

The steering column is held to the underside of the chassis crossmember with 
two allen and two 13mm bolts.   Remove those and the column will drop down a 
few inches, giving access to this junction block.   Plan on finding it toasted.
